About

Calvin Lockwood's first interest in photography was the beginning of his sophomore year of high school in Jacksonville, Fla. After three years of Graphic Arts classes, he graduated with recognition as an Outstanding Senior in 1980. He then attended the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. After graduation, he worked primarily in Miami at large commercial studios. Having five years of experience and ready for some seasonal change, he moved to Atlanta in 1987.
Freelancing at commercial studios in Atlanta seemed to be the way to go, but after five years, Calvin wanted to open his own studio. In 1993, he purchased a turn-of-the-century 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Castleberry Hill. He and his partner gutted and renovated the building into a commercial studio with their loft residence above, a rental loft and a storefront retail space. Affectionately known as the Big House, www.bighouseatlanta.com the building has been a backdrop for many of Calvin's clients as well as other photo shoots, video's and commercials. The Big House was featured on HGTV's “Rezoned” in 2005 as the Atlanta Chicken Coup, a former life of the building in the 1940's and 50's. Their loft was also a six page spread in Atlanta's Jezebel Magazine the same year.
Now with 25 years of experience, Calvin has been shooting for clients in commercial advertising and product catalogs. Since the renovation of the building was recently completed, he can devote some long awaited time on personal work and fine art.
